Bruce’s Chalet Shuhe old town: Putting Bruce’s Chalet into context

Bruce and Bella’s place won a travelers award for 2012 and is ranked top accommodation spot in Lijiang. But this is not very fair. Frankly the Crown Plaza and the Banyan Tree in town are leagues ahead in quality accommodation. What Bruce and the hard working and friendly Bella offer is a personalized service. Bruce has recognized that he needs to set his place apart from the rest of the pack and he works hard to make life easy for his guests … from a nice cuppa to good hints on what/where to do/go. The Shuhe old town location has its advantages, but it is rural and bucolic, and comes with its smells, nasty barking dogs and flies, and sometimes the long walks home thru the muck can be a bit disconcerting. Also finding appropriate restaurants and food can be an issue in the small town, although Paparotis does make excellent coffee and buns. Otherwise, accommodation is clean and comfortable, the price is right, the air is mostly fresh and clear and there is not much stress here. For a personalized experience in Lijiang, Bruce and Bella’s could be for you.
Room Tip: Get a good detailed map before you get here. The local handout is not to scale and is conducive to the holder getting lost.
