Barclay Suites, Auckland: Feet of clay

Downtown Auckland can be quite expensive and the competitive price of the Barklay Suites is quite attractive. On arrival we are upgraded to a “two bedroom” suite, but what on earth we are going to do with the extra room? His and her bathrooms? How is this an upgrade? The suite is well set out and equipped, but a little worn. And there is a stale smell which we can’t get rid of. Bad cooking from the efficient kitchenette, or too many blokes sharing? Despite the welcoming room rates, parking and internet are prohibitive here and we do not partake. Location is great and some of our favorite eateries are just around the corner, so that is a plus. The biggest downer comes when we turn the lights out. No air conditioning and it is still warm and humid in Auckland in April. And it is noisy outside tonight which is a problem with an open window seeking a breeze. Bottom line, no air con, too humid, too noisy, no go!
Room Tip: If you can handle humidity and noise, maybe this place is for you
